Did you know solvent contaminated wipes may not be hazardous waste?

Midwest Environmental Services would like to report that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has published a final rule that modifies its hazardous waste management regulations for solvent contaminated wipes under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).

Specifically, this rule revises the definition of solid waste to conditionally exclude solvent contaminated wipes that are cleaned & reused and revises the definition of hazardous waste to conditionally exclude solvent contaminated wipes that are disposed. The purpose of this rule is to provide a consistent regulatory framework that is appropriate to the level of risk posed by solvent contaminated wipes in a way that maintains protection of human health and the environment.

Currently, Midwest Environmental Services is evaluating state rules and customer profiles to determine compliance with this new regulation. To learn more about how to manage your solvent contaminated wipes, please contact a Midwest Environmental Services Representative.
